During early November, Year 12 and 13 Mathematics students were invited to take part in the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge 2020.
The Senior Mathematical Challenge is a 90-minute, multiple-choice competition aimed at students across the UK. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The problems on the Senior Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.
To recognise the highest performers in the Challenge, the top-scoring 60% of participants Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates in the ratio 3:2:1. The performance of our students was outstanding with 7 Gold Awards, 9 Silver Awards, and 11 Bronze Awards. Well done to the award winners and everyone that took part they, really did exceptionally well.
To highlight the strong performance, 6 students have been invited to participate in the follow-on round, the Senior Kangaroo – Matias Van Der Heijden, Dana Maksimovic, Joe Tewkesbury, Hasan Ghani, Travis Shoosmith, and Matthew Ferriman.
Silviya Gelina was the stand out performer and has been invited to participate in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1. This is one of the highest levels of UKMT Mathematical Challenge. A huge well done to her.
