Year 10 Student Wins Prestigious Royal Court Young Playwrights Award!

Last week, we were delighted to hear that one of our Year 10 Pegasus students, Lucy Leggatt, has been selected as a winner of this year’s Young Playwrights Award at the Royal Court — the world-renowned “writer’s theatre”.

“Whenever you sit here, I will always be beside you.”

It’s the 17th Century, and best friends Elizabeth and Jane dream of growing old together. But when visions begin to visit Elizabeth, she starts refusing food in a quest for purity – and even Jane can’t make her eat. Lucy Edda Leggatt’s Fruit is a raw, heartfelt and eerie exploration of friendship and devotion.

Out of over 260 entries from across the UK, the judging panel chose Lucy’s play, Fruit, as a winning entry in the 13–15 age category.

As part of this incredible recognition, Lucy’s play will be professionally performed at a festival of rehearsed readings in the Royal Court Theatre and published in an anthology by awards partner Nick Hern Books.

Many famous playwrights had their debut plays staged at the Royal Court, so to be recognised by such a prestigious institution is an unbelievable achievement.

Everyone at the Senior Theatre Company, the CPA, and the entire Riddlesdown Collegiate community are extremely proud of you, Lucy. Congratulations!
