Learning Success Stories – Pegasus College
Success can be defined in many different ways- whether you’re getting the highest grades in class, or you beat a personal record by a few seconds, everyone has a success story. Here we focus on a story from beyond the classroom;
Owain Simkins, a year 8 Pegasus student, has managed to succeed triumphantly with his own determination. Having only been playing chess for 3 years, Owain has managed to win a multitude of medals and awards recognising his success. He persevered through the challenges in chess using his passion and aspirations which helped him qualify for the national’s tournament constructed of the best players in the country of his age. Owain excelled, finishing fourth place, winning 3 out of the 5 games he played. This is a huge achievement for someone of such age and displays how success can be defined differently in everyone.
A huge part of success is outside support, whether from family, friends or teachers in school and Owain has been inspired by the people around him to try his hardest and continue his chess achievements. This shows how success is a personal construct and everyone succeeds in their own ways.
